3 Celts & Company • "FARQUHARSON" A branch of Clan Chattan, the Aberdeenshire Farquarsons or MacEarachers descend from Farquhar, son of the Shaw Macintosh of Rothiemurchus, Strathspey, who was awarded lands in Braemar by Bruce, for assistance against the northern Comyns. No such motive could be ascribed the clan for their devotion to the Stewart causes in after centuries. From Farquhar's grandson Finlay comes MacKinlay and some other sept names. The clan extended well into Perthshire, but MacEarachers etc. of around Argyllshire are of Lamont or other origin.
